Figure drawings from Spring Street
I really liked Spring Street studio. It's a disorienting descent from the hubbub of Soho's shoppers, down a flight of filthy orange stairs, and into a studio featuring a disrobed woman and a dozen or so devotees to the human form. It's cluttered and cozy and frequented mostly by old drawing-curmudgeons.
It's nice to know there are spaces in New York City purely preserved for observation, while incessant pedestrian footfalls patter overhead, and trains rumble underfoot. I aim to become as familiar there as piece of the battered furniture.
The tilt of this pose reminded me of the Johnnie Walker logo. |

Figures from BAS a couple of weeks back.
Brooklyn Artist Gym recently rebranded as Brooklyn Art Space. Maybe a wise choice. Sounds less sweaty.

Rita does a lot of reading

Rita reading
Rita was sweet enough to sit for me (on an improvised model-stand comprised of a coffee table found on the sidewalk, with a chair atop it). Her feet are perched on a small book shelf...but at least I positioned her directly next to the radiator. Need to come up with a better solution. Also a five-minute self-portrait (drawn after drinking a couple of old-fashioneds...my ears aren't really that big).

Figure Drawings
A friend handed me some compressed charcoal and conte crayon at this session, which forced me to deviate from what's become my regular impulse: vine charcoal.
